Ramesh Deshpande: Mr. Deshpande began his career at the Reserve Bank of India where he worked on on-site and prudential supervision of domestic and foreign commercial banks; including several large national and smaller banks. Thereafter, he rose to the position of Director of Agricultural Refinance & Development Corporation (ARDC) in India. His tasks included financing/lending for agribusiness investments as part of structured, techno- economically appraised, programs for agricultural development, in conjunction with institutional development of member banks in respect of their rural finance operations and financial viability. His staff work at the World Bank included posts such as Principal Financial Operations Officer; Division Chief, Financial Controllers Dept., Asset and Budget Accounting; Principal Rural Finance Specialist and then Senior Rural Finance Specialist. He served as Team Leader for several rural finance and agribusiness development lending operations, pre-lending sector reviews and post-lending project implementation support; managed a 40-person division dealing with institutional budget management and oversight aspects at headquarters and field. For the past ten years he has consulted with the World Bank including work covering: portfolio management in Indonesia, and rural finance sector studies in India and Bangladesh. Since then, Mr. Deshpande has been providing business development and management support to the Banking and Non-Bank Financial Markets Practice. Over his career, he has supported projects in primarily in Asia and Central Asia.
